Clyde M. Doughty Jr.

Posthumous Induction

Clyde M. Doughty, Jr., affectionately known as "Cool Mac, was born September 8, 1958, in Harlem, NY.

From an early age, Clyde's passion for sports was undeniable. That passion carried him from the courts of Brooklyn Technical High School to New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in 1976.  As a member of the NYIT Men's basketball team, he helped lead the Bears to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 1978 and 1980.

In2015, Clyde brought his visionary leadership to Bowie State University, where he served for 11 years.  He led major facilities enhancements, including improvements to the Kevin Durant Court at A.C. Jordan Arena,  the addition of new locker rooms, a nutrition lounge for student athletes, resurfaced tennis courts and numerous upgrades that enabled Bowie State to host conference championships.

Under Clyde's leadership, Bowie State athletics flourished.  The university captured multiple CIAA championships, including six consecutive women's bowling titles, three consecutive women's bowling titles, three consecutuve championships in football and softball, and a men's basketball championship in2017.  The women's  basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2019 - a milestone moment in program history.

Clyde's excellence did not go unnoticed.  He received the CIAA Jeanette A. Lee Athletic Administrator Award in 2022, was named Cushman and Wakefield Athletic Director of the Year in 2022, and earned CIAA Athletic Director of the Yerar honors in 2017, 2018-19, and 2021-22.  He also served s President of the CIAA Management Council from 2017 to 2021 and was slated to serve again during the 2025-26 term.

In 1985, Clyde married Pamela Benson, and together they built a beautiful life with their three children Brandon, Jessica, and Andre.

The BSU Sports Hall of Fame Remembers Milton Carr

Education

Milton received his education in the Baltimre City Public Schools, graduating from Carver Vocational Technical High School in 1972.  He then went on to attend Bowie State College, where he earned a degree in sociology

All American

Milton was a member of the 1972 Legacy Hall of Fame team and the Jet Black Champion 1975 team.  He was inducted into the Bowie State Hall of Fame in 1985.  In 1975, he was recognized by the Associated Press as an "All-American" player.  In 1976, his explosive performance  earned him Jet Magazine's "Player of the week" honors, which led to an invitation to try out at the Scouting Combine.

3 Cheers for 72 Years

The year 1969 proved to be a memorable one for Milton.  It was when he met Sherry, his childhood sweetheart.  Their bond endured throughout high school and college.

On Saturday, April 4, 2026, the BSU family gathered to say farewell to All-American Hall of Famer, Milton Carr, Football 1972 -1975
